Students are required to take Ballet in order to take Lyrical
Lyrical is a combination of ballet and modern styles which emphasizes the use of song musicality and lyrics to create an expressive form of dance. It requires strong technique and incorporates many emotions and feelings.
From Broadway to music videos, jazz is a contemporary dance style involving many aspects of dance. Modern is an eclectic and unique style of dance based upon the styles of many past and present dancers from Martha Graham to Lester Horton to Alvin Ailey. The teacher's individual and distinctive style pulls both Jazz and Modern together in one exciting class. Each class will begin with a basic technique warm-up that will stretch and strengthen muscles and develop proper body alignment. Students will then participate in longer dance combinations across the floor to all different types of music.
Come on in and get FUNKY! Street Funk is an exciting class that will teach students stylized dance steps featured in current music videos.
A rhythmic dance form, tap offers an exciting class for both kids and adults. Contemporary and traditional tap styles are taught stressing the basics and emphasizing technique.
This class uses a stability ball and incorporate elements of Pilates and Yoga. Pilates focuses on the core postural muscles which help keep the body balanced and which are essential to providing support for the spine. Exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso muscles, which are important to help alleviate and prevent back pain. Elements of Yoga will also be incorporated. This class will help increase strength and flexibility.
Students are required to take Tuesdays Ballet Technique class, in addition to their regular ballet class in order to participate in either Pre-Pointe or Pointe class. Students must also maintain good attendance in all of their classes in order to remain in Pre-Pointe or Pointe class.
Pre-Pointe will help prepare those ballet students for pointe. This class will focus on basic exercises that need to be mastered prior to starting pointe. This class requires Thera-bands, as it works to strengthen the area of the leg, the feet, and turnout of the student to get closer to the technical requirements needed to pursue Pointe work. It is not uncommon for students to be in Pre-Pointe for more than one year.
Pointe class students must have reached technical and physical readiness in order to participate. They also must receive approval from the Director in order to participate. Students usually begin pointe work at age 13 due to the ossification in our feet, to reduce injury, and assure that they have had proper training.
